sandanski_basilica_restored_0.jpg

Splendid mosaics from a Late Antiquity Christian basilica, exposed on the ground floor of Sandanski Archaeological Museum and the restored ruins of a 4th century basilica nearby, impress with their beauty and an imposing architecture.

They are striking evidence for the wealth and importance of the ancient town that existed in the place of modern Sandanski - and whose name remains a mystery. The museum's exhibition also has objects from the prehistory and medieval past of the town and the region. The museum also has an active educational programme for kids.
